GUIDELINES
(Contests Below)

Time Of Singing was founded in 1958 by Dr. Benjamin Browne and 2006 will mark its 33rd volume. It is published four times a year: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Three, 44 page issues are professionally produced with illustrations, the Fall issue (“Intermezzo”) is a “half” issue featuring book reviews, information, and some poems.

Time Of Singing is a literary Christian poetry magazine with “Christian” defined in the widest sense of the word. TOS has published Luci Shaw, Barbara Crooker, Thomas John Carlisle, Glenn Asquith, Bob Hostetler, Evelyn Minshull, John Grey, Canadians such as Tony Cosier and Jack Brooks, and poets from England, South Africa, Mexico, New Zealand, Scotland, Russia, Australia, and Ireland.

Poems that are not "preachy" but "show, not tell" are preferred. Sermons and “greeting card” poetry have valid but different purposes. I suggest you obtain a sample back issue ($4 each or 2 for $6) to help you ascertain TOS's style. You will be pleasantly surprised! Studying a back issue is the best way to learn the likes and dislikes of any magazine. I welcome fresh rhyme, beg for more forms, and appreciate well-crafted free verse. Poems accepted up to 60 lines. I try to respond within three months and make every effort to publish poems within one year of acceptance.

Time of Singing no longer publishes a theme list for each issue, except for contests, which may or may not have a theme. My goal is to place poems accepted for publication with seasonal themes, (e.g. Christmas, spring) in the appropriate issue.

PLEASE, SASE with all submissions. You may submit via e mail.

I will comment on work that has merit and is close to publication, and will clear major revisions with poet. All contributors receive one copy of the issue in which their work appears and the opportunity to purchase more at the contributor’s rate.

Of course, subscriptions are always welcome! One year (four issues) is $17.00 ($21 US for Canadian friends). I hope that you’ll consider supporting small press poetry.

Thank your for your interest in Time Of Singing. I look forward to reading your work.
